Creating and promoting your brand’s content can seem like an overwhelming task. But 93 percent of successful marketers can’t be wrong. The best marketers know that great content has compounding benefits including greater brand awareness, improved search-engine rankings, enhanced relationships with prospects and customers, and ultimately a stronger bottom line. But with so many responsibilities and priorities pulling us in multiple directions every day, it can be difficult to make marketing content a priority. Here are 10 tips for fitting content marketing into your daily routine:
1. Check your website traffic.
Just a few minutes inside the dashboard of your website can tell you a lot about your marketing efforts. Is traffic up? Where is traffic coming from? What keywords are visitors searching for? What content is bringing new visitors to your site?
2. Peek in on the competition.
Find out who your competition is and see what they are doing. Review their blogs, posts and other content. Follow them on social media. Knowing what your competition is up to can help strengthen your corporate differential and identify new opportunities.
3. See what’s trending.
A quick visit to Google Trends can reveal what your target audiences are searching for. Simply enter some keywords or search terms and track interest in the topic. The site will also provide you with a list of related topics that are trending.
4. Read for 15 minutes.
It doesn’t matter if you read an article about new marketing trends or choose to explore a piece that focuses on your target market. Even 20 pages from a business management book can provide you with valuable insight, inspiration and continued learning.
5. See what your audience is sharing.
Take a few minutes to check in on social media to see what your target markets are sharing. Also, use free tools like BuzzSumo to see what’s trending in your marketplace. Knowing what’s of interest to your audiences will help you generate relevant content, monitor performance and identify industry influencers.
6. Nurture one piece of content.
Building a relationship with prospects and customers is something that requires daily effort. But it can be overwhelming to create and distribute new content every day. Instead, commit to a weekly blog or article and focus on nurturing that content. Share a post on your LinkedIn profile or social media and tag several connections who may be interested in the topic. Each day, check in on the post and ask a question, like and reply to comments, and share relevant information. This authentic engagement is what elevates content marketing to the next level.
7. Revisit old content.
Go back to older blogs and other posts on your website and see if they need freshening or updating. Perhaps the pieces can be repurposed for a new audience or sharing platform. You might uncover “evergreen” content that is still relevant, helpful and share-worthy.
8. Watch a viral video.
While much of social media may be perceived as a “time suck,” taking a few minutes to see what’s trending can give insight into what’s capturing people’s attention. While giggling babies or ping pong ball trick shots may seem like a waste of time, step back from the content and see if there are new concepts, formats or approaches that you might leverage to engage your audiences.
9. Give yourself five mindful minutes.
One of the most powerful things you can do is to do nothing. No phones. No email. No computer screens. Disconnect your brain, close your eyes and let your mind wander. Creativity comes in quiet moments when you let your brain take you out of the familiar.
10. Make a to-do list.
No, this won’t help create or promote content, but with so much to do in a single day, creating tomorrow’s game plan can help marketers prioritize, classify and accomplish critical tasks.
